Terms of Use
Puzzle-Me is a free puzzle site. By using it you accept the terms set out below. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.
The service
Puzzle-Me offers browser puzzle games that are free to play and require no registration. There is no account to create and no password to remember. You open a game and you play.
The site is maintained by one person, so it changes often. Games may be added, altered, renamed or withdrawn at any moment, and the site as a whole may be suspended or closed without prior notice.
Acceptable use
Linking to Puzzle-Me is welcome. You may share a link to the site, to a game page or to your own result write about the games, record yourself playing them, or use them in a classroom, without asking permission.
The following are not allowed:
- Redistributing the games. Copying a game, in whole or in part, to host it on another site, embed it in an application or publish it in a games portal requires written permission.
- Automated collection. Scraping the site with bots, crawlers or scripts beyond what an ordinary search engine does, and any attempt to extract the leaderboard data or the game logic in bulk.
- Interfering with advertising. Clicking ads automatically, asking or encouraging other people to click ads, or manipulating how ads are displayed or counted. Besides breaking these terms, this breaches Google's programme policies and can cost the site its advertising account.
Leaderboards
Every game has a global leaderboard, and it is a shared space with rules.
Nicknames must not impersonate another person. They must not contain insults, slurs, harassment, sexual content or hate speech, in any language. They must not be advertising: no domain names, no brand promotion, no links.
Scores obtained by modifying the game code, by calling or intercepting the leaderboard API directly, or by any other method that is not simply playing the game, may be removed without notice.
We reserve the right to delete any entry, to block a nickname and to reset a leaderboard entirely, for instance after fixing a bug that made impossible scores possible. Leaderboard positions carry no prize and no value.
Intellectual property
The games, their code, their texts, the graphic design of the site and the Puzzle-Me name belong to the site owner and are protected by copyright.
All the games here are original creations, designed and written for this site. Several of them stand in traditions that belong to everyone: the Latin square underlying sudoku, block-pushing puzzles, matching puzzles, and public geographic data such as borders, areas and populations. Those traditions and that data are free for anybody to use. What is ours is the particular implementation: the rules we invented, the level design, the code, the interface and the accompanying texts.
If you believe something on the site infringes your rights, write to hello@puzzle-me.com with a description of the work, the address of the page concerned and your contact details, and well-founded complaints are handled quickly.
Advertising
The site is financed by advertising served through Google AdSense, which pays for hosting, the domain and development time.
We do not choose, control or endorse the individual ads displayed; they are selected automatically. Any transaction between you and an advertiser concerns the two of you alone, and the site is neither a party to it nor responsible for it. How advertising cookies work is explained on the privacy page.
Links to other sites
Some pages link to external sites. Those sites are not under our control and we are not responsible for their content, their policies or their availability. A link is not an endorsement.
Liability
The site is provided "as is" and "as available". We work to keep it correct and online, but we do not guarantee that it is free of errors, that scores are never lost, or that the service runs without interruption.
Within the limits of the law, we are not liable for indirect damage arising from use of the site, including lost data or lost time.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under Portuguese or European Union law, in particular the rules protecting consumers and liability for damage caused deliberately or through gross negligence. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights remain intact.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the site develops. The current version is always on this page, with its date at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new version; significant changes are signalled on the site.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by Portuguese law and the Portuguese courts have jurisdiction, without prejudice to the rules that allow a consumer to bring proceedings, and to be sued, in the courts of the country where they live.
If you are a consumer in the European Union you may use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr, and you may also turn to an alternative consumer dispute resolution body. In Portugal the register of arbitration centres is kept by the Directorate-General for Consumers.
